Harris, a two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion and former U.S. Women’s National Team goalkeeper, has become an influential figure in the sport. The documentary includes interviews with Harris, her family, and her former coaches, tracing her journey from childhood through her college and professional careers to her advocacy for LGBTQ rights and support for female athletes post-retirement.
“I’ve spent a lifetime learning how to be strong for everyone else,” Harris stated. “This is the first time I’ve let the world see what it actually cost me, but also what it gave me. The wins, the losses, the moments I had to rebuild… they didn’t break me, they built me. This isn’t just my story, it’s my truth. And if there’s anything I hope people take from it, it’s that growth comes from showing up for yourself, owning every part of who you are, and choosing every single day to keep moving forward.”
Sean Boyle of Roku Originals expressed enthusiasm, saying, “We’re excited to offer viewers exclusive access to fan-favorite athletes like Ashlyn Harris. The documentary delivers an unparalleled look into her journey of resilience and dedication, both on and off the field.”
Sara Rea of Firefly Studios commended Harris for her openness: “Ashlyn’s willingness to be vulnerable and open as she shares her story is remarkable. She has faced countless ups and downs, yet her resilience and refusal to give up are deeply inspiring. I’m truly honored to be part of the team she trusted to bring her story to life, and I believe her honesty has the power to move and teach us all.”
Gamechangers: The Ashlyn Harris Story is produced by Firefly Studios and overseen by Sean Boyle and Louisa Lenander Friedman on behalf of Roku, with executive producers Sara Rea, Jane Lee, Cynthia Wade, and Chet Fenster.
