The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has provided an updated timeline concerning the tragic deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele. The couple was allegedly killed in their Brentwood home by their son, Nick.
In a press release on December 16, L.A. County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman stated that Nick Reiner is accused of the murders occurring “approximately the early morning hours” of December 14.
The official statement details that, “In approximately the early morning hours of December 14, Reiner is accused of fatally stabbing Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, at their home in the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue in Brentwood.” Following the incident, Nick reportedly fled but was arrested hours later that evening in Exposition Park.
During a press conference, Hochman was unable to confirm the exact time of death for either Rob or Michele, expressing regret for the lack of specificity. “I’m sorry we don’t have that kind of specificity yet,” he said, adding that they are still awaiting coroner results to ascertain the time of death.
The District Attorney’s office confirmed that Nick Reiner faces charges of “two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, and a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife.”

“Prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face due to the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes,” Hochman remarked in the statement. “Rob Reiner was one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation. His murder, along with that of his wife of more than 35 years, Michele Singer Reiner, are both shocking and tragic. We owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were taken.”
As previously reported, Nick was not present at his parents’ home when authorities discovered their bodies. He was located by police hours later, approximately six hours after the bodies were found, near the University of Southern California campus at around 9:15 p.m. on December 14.
Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead at home on Sunday, December 14. Authorities had responded to a medical aid call around 3:30 p.m. when they made the grim discovery.
