Rob Delaney Teams Up with Elizabeth Banks in New Apple TV Comedy by Liz Heldens and Matt Ward
EXCLUSIVE: Rob Delaney, fresh off his second Emmy nomination for a supporting role opposite Michelle Williams in FX’s Dying for Sex, has secured a role alongside Elizabeth Banks in her upcoming half-hour comedy series for Apple TV.
Details regarding Delaney’s character remain unconfirmed. The series, created by Liz Heldens (Will Trent) and Matt Ward (Best Medicine), is set to begin production in Los Angeles later this year. The narrative centers around Heidi, portrayed by Banks, who, following a tumultuous divorce, seeks to reinvent her life with her children. However, her journey takes an unexpected turn as she becomes involved in coordinating her father’s retirement community escapades, leading her to form an unlikely partnership with his girlfriend’s chronically single son.
Delaney is a familiar face for Apple viewers, currently starring opposite Vince Vaughn in the dark comedy crime drama Bad Monkey, based on the novel by Carl Hiaasen. With the show heading into its second season, Delaney has appeared in Apple’s Argylle and will feature in the forthcoming drama Being Heumann by Sian Heder. He is also contributing as a consultant on the limited series adaptation of the 2006 romantic comedy The Holiday.
Formerly titled We’re All Gonna Die, the Banks-led series is produced by 20th Television. Heldens, a co-developer and co-showrunner of Will Trent, is currently under an overall deal with the studio. This project has been in the works at Apple TV since at least last fall and received a green light after qualifying for a California tax credit.
Alongside Heldens and Ward, executive producers include Banks, Max Handelman, and Krissy Wall through Brownstone Productions; Jonathan Krisel, the pilot director; Quinn Haberman; and Jason Winer and Jon Radler from Small Dog Picture Company.
Delaney, a two-time Emmy nominee, first received recognition for Catastrophe, the acclaimed comedy he co-created with Sharon Horgan. Other projects in his pipeline include Laika’s Wildwood and Amazon MGM’s Road House 2. He is represented by UTA, Avalon, and Brecheen Feldman Breimer.
