Riz Ahmed Shares an Intriguing Side in His Latest ‘Saturday Night Live UK’ Teaser Sketch
Riz Ahmed unveils a surprising side in the first sketch from his upcoming role as host of *Saturday Night Live* UK.
In the sketch, Ahmed, known for his roles in *Bait* and *Hamlet*, is seen dancing in his dressing room, illuminated by disco lights. Joining him are *SNL UK* cast members George Fouracres and Ayoade Bamgboye. “Sorry about this music, guys, I’m just so excited to be presenting with you,” a lively Ahmed exclaims, calling for his colleagues’ attention.
Bamgboye accepts a candy, while Fouracres compliments the atmosphere, saying, “A very pleasant atmosphere you’ve created here,” before adding with a chuckle, “There’s me thinking you’d be intense!” This comment alluded to Ahmed’s serious acting reputation.
“Uh, the only time I’m intense… is when I’m camping with my niece and nephew in the summertime,” Ahmed responds, eliciting laughter from the cast.
The light-hearted exchange takes a turn when Fouracres mentions their shared experience of playing Hamlet. Ahmed abruptly halts the music and feigns ignorance about Shakespeare’s renowned Globe theater.
“You’ve played Hamlet, but you’ve never heard of Shakespeare?” Bamgboye asks, bewildered, as ominous music heightens the tension. “Ummmmm… no. I wasn’t playing Hamlet. I went full method. I became Hamlet,” Ahmed replies, maintaining a playful tone.
“What, you went on a real-life murderous rampage to avenge the death of your father?” Fouracres inquires.
Ahmed theatrically raises a finger to his lips and, with a sly grin, replies, “No,” as he slams a small chest of sweets down to prevent Bamgboye from grabbing more. Quickly returning to his upbeat demeanor, he concludes, “Can’t wait to make some funnies with you guys,” and resumes dancing as the sketch wraps up.
The *SNL UK* cast includes Fouracres, Bamgboye, Hammed Animashaun, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi, and Paddy Young.
