Marisa Abela and Kit Harington Discuss Yasmin’s Struggles to Support Henry in Episode 2 of ‘Industry’
The acclaimed series Industry returns for its fourth season on HBO, continuing to explore themes of corporate greed and the struggle for power. While the show often portrays the darker side of wealth and privilege, its latest episode delves into the complexities of personal relationships amidst crises.
Titled “The Commander and the Grey Lady,” the second episode focuses on Sir Henry Muck, played by Kit Harington, and his wife Yasmin, portrayed by Marisa Abela. As Muck grapples with the fallout from losing his parliamentary seat to the pragmatic Jennifer Bevan (Amy James-Kelly), he faces a personal crisis marked by addiction and despair.
The episode reveals Muck’s turmoil, including a bout of substance abuse and the emotional strain of his marriage. Yasmin attempts to revive their relationship by securing him a top position at a payment processing firm and planning an extravagant birthday bash for his 40th.
Throughout the narrative looms the shadow of Muck’s father’s suicide, an event witnessed by Muck as a child on his own birthday. Following chaotic outbursts at a dinner gathering and a destructive episode at a pub, Muck contemplates ending his life before he is rescued by the imagined voice of Yasmin.
Harington commented on the depth of Muck’s trauma, stating, “We learn about his trauma; it’s one of the deepest traumas you could have, is seeing your father kill [himself], like no one should go through [that].” He expressed that portraying Muck in a sympathetic light rather than as merely a villain allowed for a more nuanced exploration of his character.
Despite a climactic fight between Yasmin and Henry, the couple ultimately reconnects emotionally and physically by the episode’s conclusion, marking a small but significant victory for their relationship amidst the chaos.
Abela discussed Yasmin’s intentions in facilitating Muck’s new job, asserting that her actions stem from a genuine desire to help. “I think it is an act of love,” she explained, emphasizing that her motivation revolves around ensuring that Henry has purpose and the ability to engage with life.
In a recent interview, co-creator Konrad Kay hinted at a grand narrative arc for Harington’s character this season, describing it as a blend of comedy, despair, and profound emotion, all interwoven into Muck’s performance.
Industry airs on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and is available for streaming on HBO Max.
