Rise Literary Collaborates with Joy Gorman, Producer of ’13 Reasons Why’ and ‘Little House On The Prairie,’ to Explore Book-to-Screen Opportunities
Rise Literary is expanding its ambitions in the realm of book-to-screen adaptations through a new advisory partnership and publishing imprint with television producer Joy Gorman.
Gorman, known for her work on 13 Reasons Why and the forthcoming Netflix adaptation of Little House on the Prairie, will serve in a consulting role. She aims to provide insights to the Rise Literary team and CEO Kristen McGuiness on creative development and strategic planning for their book slate. This partnership seeks to create opportunities for projects even before publication and to identify stories initially intended for the screen that can transition into book formats.
In conjunction with this collaboration, Rise Literary has also launched a new publishing imprint under Gorman’s Joy Coalition, with sales and distribution managed by Simon & Schuster. This imprint aims to bridge the gap between television and film intellectual property and trade publications, eBooks, and audiobooks, ensuring both national and international distribution.

The inaugural project from the partnership will be the suspense novel The Revenge Party by Emily Paulson, slated for release in May 2026.
“As Rise continues to elevate our authors to best sellers and changemakers, we are working to create real momentum for books across all media,” McGuiness stated. “Few publishers have figured out how to maximize the book-to-screen pipeline, but Joy’s incredible track record as an adaptation expert makes her the perfect guide to navigating new ways to develop material for the screen and from the screen.”
Gorman added, “I’m so impressed by what Kristen and the team at Rise have built. It’s an innovative publishing entity that allows authors, especially women, to champion their own stories, many of whom may have otherwise been overlooked. This is an opportunity to connect Rise IP with Career Producers who ensure projects are produced with the care they deserve, as well as to create new pathways for storytellers in response to the contraction in the traditional Hollywood business model.”
Rise Literary operates as a hybrid book publisher, specializing in coaching and publishing for emerging writers. The company collaborates with Simon & Schuster for distribution.
Joy Coalition is currently in post-production on its reimagining of Little House on the Prairie, set to release on Netflix later this year. Gorman has executive produced four seasons of 13 Reasons Why, along with multiple seasons of Hulu’s Unprisoned and Apple TV’s Home Before Dark. Since founding her production company in 2022, Gorman has focused on premium content addressing social issues, working closely with policy experts and philanthropic organizations.
