Renée Elise Goldsberry Joins CBS Legal Drama ‘Cupertino’
Renée Elise Goldsberry, known for her performances in Hamilton and Girls5Eva, has been cast in the upcoming CBS legal drama Cupertino, created by Robert and Michelle King.
Set against the backdrop of Silicon Valley, Cupertino tells the story of Michael (played by Mike Colter), a lawyer fighting to reclaim his stock options after being wronged by a tech start-up. In a show of resilience, Michael teams up with another recently fired attorney to advocate for individuals exploited by the powerful tech elite in high-stakes legal battles.
Goldsberry will portray Renee, an intelligent opposing attorney with both professional and romantic ties to Michael.
This project marks a reunion between Goldsberry and the Kings, the creators of the acclaimed CBS series The Good Wife, where she portrayed Geneva Pine. She previously collaborated with Colter in the series Evil, further establishing her strong ties within the genre.
Colter, who has a history with the Kings from both The Good Wife and Evil, continues to work alongside them as they currently helm the CBS series Elsbeth, a spinoff from their popular legal franchise.
The Kings will serve as writers and executive producers on Cupertino through their King Size Productions label, with Robert King directing the premiere episode. Liz Glotzer will also serve as an executive producer.
Goldsberry is a Tony and Grammy Award winner, as well as an Emmy-nominated actress and singer. She garnered her first Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role as Angelica Schuyler in Disney’s Hamilton in 2021. Additionally, she received two Daytime Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Evangeline Williamson on One Life to Live in 2006 and 2007.
Her television credits extend to appearances in Netflix’s Girls5Eva, Disney+’s She-Hulk, Fox’s Ally McBeal, and Netflix’s Altered Carbon. Goldsberry is also the focus of the upcoming documentary Satisfied, which explores her journey in Hamilton alongside the challenges of family-building and new motherhood.
On Broadway, Goldsberry has starred in notable productions such as Hamilton, Rent, The Color Purple, and The Lion King. Recently, she released her debut album, Who I Really Am, featuring a collection of original music.
