Vince Zampella, Influential Game Developer, Dies in Car Crash
LOS ANGELES – The gaming world is in mourning following the tragic death of Vince Zampella, a pivotal figure in video game development and co-creator of the Call of Duty franchise. Zampella, 55, was killed in a car accident on the Angeles Crest Highway, as confirmed by local authorities.
The incident occurred Sunday afternoon when Zampella was traveling in a Ferrari that veered off the road on a curvy, mountainous section of the highway. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials stated the vehicle was heading southbound when it left the roadway, struck a concrete barrier, and was engulfed in flames around 12:45 p.m. The passenger was ejected from the car, while the driver could not escape; both individuals perished at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is yet to be determined if drugs or alcohol were involved.
While authorities have not officially released the identities of the victims pending notification of their families, multiple accounts have confirmed Zampella’s identity.
Angeles Crest Highway is a well-known route that attracts both drivers and motorcyclists, although it is infamous for its sharp curves and history of serious accidents.
Zampella was celebrated for his significant contributions to modern gaming. He played a crucial role in developing the Call of Duty series, one of the highest-grossing video game franchises globally, and later contributed to the success of Apex Legends, a game enjoyed by millions.
