Regé-Jean Page Shares How His Views on Rom-Coms Influenced His Role in ‘You, Me & Tuscany’
Regé-Jean Page Returns to Romantic Roots in Upcoming Film ‘You, Me & Tuscany’
Regé-Jean Page is set to star alongside Halle Bailey in the upcoming romantic comedy You, Me & Tuscany, a project that drew him in partly due to its genre.
In recent discussions surrounding the perceived decline of the romantic comedy, Page, known for his role in Bridgerton, shared insights during an interview with People. “It might have been that. The idea that the rom-com is dead,” he stated. “Love definitely isn’t dead. Love will save us. And I think that I’m happy to wave that flag.”
You, Me & Tuscany follows the story of Anna, portrayed by Bailey, who impulsively travels to the Italian countryside and stays in a stranger’s villa without permission. After being caught by the man’s mother, she pretends to be her son’s fiancée. As the charade unfolds, complications arise when Anna begins developing feelings for Michael, played by Page.
Reflecting on the film’s production, Page expressed enthusiasm for their time spent filming in Italy. “We shot in Tuscany. It was Rome, five or six weeks in Tuscany. We were just out in the sunshine, driving through vineyards. I ran my hand through that field of wheat that Russell Crowe goes through at the beginning of Gladiator. Food was incredible,” he recalled. He also highlighted the joy of collaborating with Bailey: “And I got to work with Halle Bailey every day. So we were just having a great time. We were having a great time making a movie about stepping into your best life.”
Page emphasized the core message of romantic comedies, noting, “They’re about aspirations. About having aspirations that you can step into your best life through trusting other people, through discovering how to solve your problems with other… how to talk through your problems. Every movie doesn’t have to be who punches hardest. So I’m conscious about talking it out and finding peace with yourself and other people. And it was a joy to do that.”
You, Me & Tuscany is directed by Kat Coiro and is based on a screenplay by Ryan Engle, with the film set to be released in theaters on April 10. The production is a collaboration between Universal Pictures and Will Packer Productions.
