Macon Blair, Daveed Diggs, and Michael Patrick Thornton Sign on as Main Cast for Hulu/A24 Drama ‘The Spot’
EXCLUSIVE: Hulu and A24 have announced the addition of three actors to the cast of their upcoming drama series, The Spot: Macon Blair, Daveed Diggs, and Michael Patrick Thornton. Blair is recognized for his roles in Blue Ruin, Diggs for his performance in Hamilton, and Thornton for his work in Waiting for Godot.
Details about the characters remain undisclosed. Leading the series are Claire Danes and Ewan McGregor, under the direction of writer and showrunner Ed Solomon, known for Full Circle. The plot centers on a successful surgeon portrayed by Danes and her husband, a schoolteacher played by McGregor, who grapple with the suspicion that she may be linked to a child’s hit-and-run death. As they search for the truth, they become entangled in a web of doubt and dark secrets, challenging their relationship and testing their resolve amid potential hidden guilt.
A24 is producing The Spot in collaboration with 20th Television for Hulu. The executive production team includes Solomon, Robin Sweet, and Ariel Kleiman, who will also direct.
Danes assumes the lead role after Kate Winslet, originally slated to star and executive produce, exited the project last June for creative reasons. The series was ordered straight-to-series in August 2024 as part of a competitive pitch at Hulu.
Blair, known for his acting in films like Blue Ruin and Green Room, also has directing credits such as I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore and the recent The Toxic Avenger. He has appeared in FX’s The Lowdown and is represented by CAA and Bradley Garrett at Garrett Legal.
Diggs, a Tony- and Grammy-Award winner noted for roles in Hamilton, Blindspotting, and Wonder, has been featured in Amazon’s final season of The Boys and TNT’s Snowpiercer. His future projects include I Want Your Sex directed by Gregg Araki and Searchlight/Hulu’s In the Blink of an Eye, spearheaded by Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton. He is repped by CAA, Brookside Artist Management, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett Kole.
Thornton’s recent credits include appearances in Black Rabbit and The Good Doctor. He also starred opposite Jessica Chastain in the Tony-nominated A Doll’s House. Thornton is working on Apple’s Being Heumann and the Jessica Chastain-led series The Savant, examining the prevention of violence from online hate groups, with a premiere date yet to be confirmed. He is represented by Innovative Artists and Principal Entertainment LA.
