Rachel Bloom and Pete Gardner Team Up for ABC Comedy Pilot ‘Do You Want Kids?’ After ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ Reunion
ABC’s New Comedy Pilot Features a Reunion of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Alumni
ABC’s upcoming comedy pilot Do You Want Kids? is set to bring together familiar faces from the hit series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Pete Gardner, a regular from the CW comedy-drama, has joined the cast as a series regular. The pilot is co-created and executive produced by Rachel Bloom, a co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, along with writer-producer Dan Gregor.
Gardner will portray Freddy, the gruff patriarch of the Vasilescu family, in the pilot, which stars Bloom and Rory Scovel. He replaces Daniel Stern, who exited the project shortly after being charged with a misdemeanor.
Do You Want Kids?, produced by 20th Television, centers on Rosie (played by Bloom) and Alex Vasilescu (Scovel), exploring the pivotal decision of whether or not to have children and how it shapes their lives across two different universes.
Trent O’Donnell is directing the pilot, with Bloom and Gregor co-writing the script. They are also joined by Steven Levitan and Danielle Stokdyk of 20th TV-based Levitan Productions, along with Jeff Morton, in executive producing the project.
In his previous roles, Gardner was known for his part as Rebecca’s boss in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and recently completed a multi-episode arc in Netflix’s Never Have I Ever. He also appeared in the film adaptation of Harold and the Purple Crayon. Gardner is represented by Ellis Talent Group and Seven Summits Pictures & Management.
