A longtime fan of Ellie Goulding received a remarkable surprise at her wedding when the renowned singer appeared to perform.

Emily Emby celebrated her nuptials to Joel at the luxury Palm Beach resort The Breakers on Saturday, December 6. The joyous occasion was enhanced when Goulding, 38, took to the stage to sing “How Long Will I Love You,” the couple’s first dance, along with several of her biggest hits.

“I was hysterically crying!” Emby told PEOPLE. “I had been talking about Ellie since high school!”

During the reception, Emby and her husband danced together on a stunning black-and-white checkered floor as Goulding sang alongside Bobby Attiko Band from Hank Lane Music & Productions.

In total, Goulding performed five songs, including hits like “Love Me Like You Do” and “Lights,” creating an unforgettable experience for the couple and their guests. She donned a striking red ruffled dress while creating lasting memories for everyone present.

Emby shared that her friends and family’s reactions mirrored her own excitement. “Everyone was screaming,” she said.

Recently announcing her pregnancy, Goulding will welcome her second child with boyfriend Beau Minniear. She has a four-year-old son, Arthur, from a previous marriage.

The surprise performance was kept a secret, conceived by Emby’s father and flawlessly executed by Jennifer Pear of Jennifer Ashley Productions.

Emby expressed her astonishment, mentioning that she was unaware of the complexities involved in pulling off such a surprise. Her father cleverly used a code name to reference Goulding and communicated in secrecy throughout the planning process. Emby praised their bond, noting, “[It] shows he not only knows everything about me and we have an amazing relationship, but also the man knows how to throw a good party.”

Pear recounted that Emby’s father had “quietly texted” her during a wedding planning call in January, inquiring about the feasibility of inviting Goulding to the event.

After initial setbacks, Pear confirmed to Emby’s father that she had a direct connection to initiate the booking process. “From there, it became our little secret mission,” Pear said. “At first, it was just between the two of us, and once we had some momentum, we looped in Emily’s mom.” She described the effort as a “true undercover operation in the most joyful way.”

Pear expressed her appreciation for the experience, stating, “Watching it all come together; from the initial idea, to contacting her team, to securing the performance, was incredibly special. He had the dream, and together we found the path to make it happen.”
