Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s ‘Tomb Raider’ Series on Prime Video Announces Cast with Jason Isaacs and Sigourney Weaver in Important Roles
Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s adaptation of the “Tomb Raider” series for Amazon has officially announced Jason Isaacs and Sigourney Weaver as part of its cast. They will join Sophie Turner, who takes on the lead role of Lara Croft, a character previously portrayed by Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s film franchise.
In addition to the main trio, the cast features several other notable names. Martin Bobb-Semple will portray Zip, while Bill Paterson takes on the role of Winston. From the “Tomb Raider” universe, Jack Bannon will play Gerry, John Heffernan as David, and Celia Imrie, known for her work on “Celebrity Traitors” UK, will play Francine. Other cast members include Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, and August Wittgenstein.
This long-anticipated series draws inspiration from the popular video game franchise, which follows the adventures of world-renowned archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. In a competitive landscape, Netflix has launched its own animated series, “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft,” featuring Hayley Atwell, which recently completed its second and final season.
“Tomb Raider boasts a plethora of iconic characters,” Waller-Bridge stated. “I am thrilled to have been able to bring some personal and fan favourites to the screen while also introducing a few new rascals of our own to the mix. This cast is beyond my wildest dreams.”
Waller-Bridge, known for her acclaimed series “Fleabag,” serves as the creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner, alongside Chad Hodge. Jonathan Van Tulleken will direct and also serve as an executive producer. The series is backed by multiple production entities, including Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics, with Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins from Wells Street Films, as well as Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson from Story Kitchen. Matt McInnis and Jan R. Martin are credited as co-executive producers.
