Phil Dunster Cast in Live-Action Adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon 2 by Universal Pictures
Phil Dunster, known for his roles in Ted Lasso and Rooster, has been cast as Eret, son of Eret, in Universal Pictures’ upcoming live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon 2.
Dunster joins an impressive ensemble that includes Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gerard Butler, Cate Blanchett, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, and Harry Trevaldwyn. Dean DeBlois returns as writer, director, and executive producer for this sequel.
Scheduled for release on June 11, 2027, this film continues the story of Hiccup, voiced by Jay Baruchel, as he uncovers a secret fortress of dragons and learns that his mother is alive. Blanchett will reprise her role as Valka, Hiccup’s mother, while Butler returns as Stoic, Hiccup’s father.
Marc Platt, known for Bridge of Spies, La La Land, and The Trial of the Chicago Seven, will produce through his Universal-based Marc Platt Productions along with Adam Siegel, President of the production company.
Senior Vice President of Production Lexi Barta will oversee the project for Universal.
The franchise, which follows Hiccup and Toothless, has grossed over $2.2 billion across four films. The live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon earned $636.4 million globally last summer, marking the franchise’s most successful box office performance. The films are based on the best-selling series by Cressida Cowell.
Dunster, represented by Brillstein Entertainment Partners, CAA, United Agents, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman, is recognized for his portrayal of the talented yet headstrong Jamie Tartt in Ted Lasso. He also appeared as Quinn in the series Surface and is set to star in the upcoming Bill Lawrence project, Rooster, alongside Steve Carell and Charly Clive.
