Peter Safran Introduces ‘Clayface’ Teaser at CinemaCon
First Teaser for DC’s ‘Clayface’ Unveiled at CinemaCon
Warner Bros. and DC have revealed the first teaser for their body horror film, Clayface, exclusively at CinemaCon.
The teaser presents a disfigured character with red eyes lying in a hospital bed, portraying the lead role played by Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries. Footage features Harries at various stages of mutilation, both before and after a traumatic event.
In another scene, the character dons a mask and appears to be molting, showcasing a face that can be manipulated like putty.
Directed by James Watkins, Clayface signifies a bold move for DC Studios, following the release of Supergirl on June 26. Initially scheduled for an early September launch, the film’s release date has now been set for October 23.
DC Chief Peter Safran, introducing Clayface, described the character as someone “not famous yet,” but anticipated to gain prominence once the “riveting horror thriller” hits theaters just in time for Halloween.
The character of Clayface first appeared in comics in 1940, depicting an actor who criminally adopts the persona of a cinematic character. Multiple versions of Clayface have been featured throughout the years, each with shapeshifting abilities and a history of clashes with Batman.
The cast includes Naomi Ackie alongside Harries, with David Dencik, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan in supporting roles. The script for the film has been penned by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. Production credits include The Batman writer-director Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, and DC Studios’ James Gunn and Safran, with executive producers Michael E. Uslan, Chantal Nong Vo, Lars P. Winther, Rafi Crohn, and Paul Richie.
