Oswald Peraza’s Key Hit in the 10th Inning Leads Angels to Victory Over Mets
Angels Snap Losing Streak with 4-3 Victory over Mets
In a dramatic finish, the Los Angeles Angels broke a seven-game losing streak by defeating the New York Mets 4-3 on Saturday night at Angel Stadium. Oswald Peraza delivered a pivotal two-out RBI single in the 10th inning, driving in the winning run.
The inning began with Jorge Soler drawing a leadoff walk from reliever Austin Warren (0-1). Jo Adell followed with a single, loading the bases with no outs. Warren managed to secure two flyouts from Josh Lowe and Vaughn Grissom, but one strike away from escaping the jam, Peraza connected on an 0-2 curveball, sending it into left-center field for the decisive hit.
The Angels’ bullpen played a key role in the victory, contributing 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Sam Bachman struck out three batters over 1 2/3 innings, while Ryan Zeferjahn (2-1) closed out the game with a scoreless ninth and tenth inning.
The Mets attempted a rally in the bottom of the 10th. Brett Baty reached first base due to catcher’s interference, but Zeferjahn responded effectively, inducing a ground ball from Bo Bichette that led to a double play. After issuing an intentional walk to Juan Soto, Zeferjahn secured the win by getting Francisco Alvarez to pop out to second base.
Starting pitcher Reid Detmers held the Mets to one run and four hits over six innings. However, he faced challenges in the seventh inning when Mark Vientos doubled and Marcus Semien drove him in with a single. A sacrifice fly from Andy Ibáñez and an RBI single from Tyrone Taylor allowed the Mets to tie the score at 3-3.
In a pivotal moment, Austin Slater and Ronny Mauricio reached on infield singles, loading the bases. With pressure mounting, Bachman replaced Detmers and successfully navigated the situation, getting Bichette to ground out and striking out Soto with an 89-mph slider to end the inning.
Earlier in the game, the Angels took the lead in the first inning with a series of two-out singles from Nolan Schanuel, Soler, and Adell. Schanuel scored as Soler was thrown out at third base by Slater, but the umpires ruled that Schanuel touched home plate before the tag, a decision not challenged by the Mets despite replays indicating a potential discrepancy.
The Mets managed to equalize in the third inning after Bichette delivered an RBI single.
This victory not only ended the Angels’ losing streak but also provided a much-needed boost as they navigate the remainder of the season.
