Officer Injured in Shootout Near Pasadena Metro Station
Pasadena Police Continue Investigation into Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting
Detectives with the Pasadena Police Department are actively investigating a fatal shooting involving an armed suspect and one of their officers that occurred on Monday evening.
According to police spokeswoman Lisa Derderian, officers responded to a 911 call at 7:30 p.m. reporting a shooting near the Metro A Line Sierra Madre Villa station. Upon arrival, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder and learned that the suspect had fled the scene.
Following a brief foot pursuit, officers caught up with the suspect at the intersection of Electronic Drive and Sierra Madre Villa Avenue. During the encounter, the suspect was shot and killed by an officer, while one officer sustained injuries.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Derderian confirmed that the injured officer, a training officer, underwent surgery shortly after arriving at the hospital.
A woman who witnessed the incident and had recently moved to the area expressed her shock. “We never expected this to happen here,” she remarked.
Derderian stated that the department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting, adding, “We’re hoping for the best for our officer.”
