Vehicle Crash in Downtown Los Angeles Injures Six Pedestrians
LOS ANGELES – Authorities are investigating a severe vehicle accident in downtown Los Angeles that occurred late Tuesday morning. A vehicle veered off the road, struck six pedestrians, and then crashed into a tree.
The incident took place around 11:45 a.m. near 535 E. Eighth Street. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, six individuals were on the sidewalk when the vehicle collided with them. Five of those pedestrians were transported to local hospitals for treatment, with two listed in serious condition. The other three sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while one person received treatment at the scene and was released.
As of now, law enforcement has not disclosed the identity of the driver involved in the crash. It remains unclear whether the driver remained at the scene following the incident. Investigators are also looking into the cause of the collision, exploring possibilities such as a medical emergency, mechanical failure, or driver impairment.
Traffic is expected to be restricted around E. Eighth Street for several hours as the investigation continues. The medical condition of the critically injured individuals has not been confirmed.
Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the intersection of 8th and San Pedro Streets to ensure emergency vehicles have clear access. Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area during the time of the accident are encouraged to contact the LAPD Central Traffic Division.
