Officer Hurt After Gun Discharges During Riverside Incident
Officer Hospitalized After Altercation in Riverside
An officer was hospitalized Wednesday night following an incident in Riverside where a firearm was discharged during a confrontation. The disturbance occurred around 6:45 p.m. near University Avenue and Dwight Avenue, as the officer responded to a mental health emergency.
During the encounter, police reported that the officer engaged in a physical struggle with the suspect. At some point in the altercation, a firearm went off.
The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The suspect, also involved in the altercation, was placed in police custody and transported to a hospital, although the severity of their injuries remains unknown.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident and have not yet determined who owned the discharged weapon. Riverside police are advising the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
