OC Sheriff’s Deputy Charged in Fiancée’s Tragic Shooting at Their Tustin Home
Deputy Charged with Voluntary Manslaughter in Fatal Shooting of Fiancée
An Orange County Sheriff’s deputy has been charged with voluntary manslaughter following the fatal shooting of her fiancée in their Tustin home last summer, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Aimee Alexis Hidalgo, 28, is accused of shooting 35-year-old Brittany Shaw nine times when Shaw returned to their studio apartment after walking their dog. The incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on August 8, 2025.
The District Attorney’s Office reported that Shaw was shot at “close intermediate range” in the head, sustaining additional gunshot wounds to her upper body and right arm. After the shooting, Hidalgo called 911 and attempted to perform CPR on Shaw, who was subsequently hospitalized but succumbed to her injuries.
Shaw was an employee at the Orange County Jail, working in Correctional Health, and was in the process of planning a destination wedding in Mexico with Hidalgo.
Following the incident, Hidalgo was placed on administrative leave from the sheriff’s department, where she had served as a deputy since 2021. She surrendered to authorities on Monday after being charged with voluntary manslaughter and an enhancement for personal use of a firearm.
If convicted, Hidalgo could face a maximum sentence of 21 years in prison.
As of now, no possible motive for the shooting has been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether Hidalgo has legal representation.
