Northern California Horse Racing Faces Challenges from CHRB Decisions
The California Horse Racing Board has voted 4-2 to reject the proposed racing dates for Northern California fairs, a decision driven by concerns over the financial stability of struggling tracks in Southern California.
This ruling redirects wagering revenue to Southern California venues, bolstering purses and enhancing the state’s competitiveness against wealthier racing jurisdictions such as Kentucky and New York.
Board members expressed differing views on the long-term effects of consolidating racing in the south, debating whether this strategy would ultimately benefit or harm California’s broader racing industry.
