Aubrey Plaza, Paul Rudd, and Quentin Tarantino Shine at the 25th Annual Tribeca Festival with a Record 102 World Premieres
Tribeca Festival to Showcase Record 102 World Premieres
The 25th edition of the Tribeca Festival is set to present a historic lineup, featuring 102 world premiere feature films this June. Running from June 3 to 14, the festival will showcase a total of 117 feature films alongside 86 short films, reflecting its commitment to a diverse array of cinematic storytelling.
While celebrity-driven offerings have been a hallmark of the Tribeca Festival, the 2023 slate includes notable figures such as Paul Rudd, Quentin Tarantino, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, Alicia Vikander, Emilia Clarke, and Allison Brie. The festival, which has distanced itself from the word "film" in its official title, emphasizes a broad spectrum of creative expressions, including performances from musicians like Sara Bareilles, Peter Frampton, Alicia Keys, The LOX, and Mumford & Sons.
Additionally, prominent sports figures such as Carmelo Anthony, Chris Evert, and Martina Navratilova will also be part of the event. Tribeca X, a segment of the festival, will highlight collaborations from the advertising, technology, and business sectors.
Among this year’s premiering films is The Accompanist, produced and starred in by Plaza, who also directs. This film, written and directed by Zach Woods, features a cast that includes Susan Sarandon and Everly Carganilla.
Tarantino makes a notable appearance in Only What We Carry, an improvisational drama shot on the Normandy coast of France in just six days. Directed and written by Jamie Adams, the film features a cast that includes Sofia Boutella, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lizzy McAlpine, and Simon Pegg.
Paul Rudd stars in Rain Reign, a drama that focuses on a 12-year-old neurodivergent girl navigating challenges alongside her struggling single father and supportive uncle. Directed by Erika Burke Rossa, the film also stars Felice Kakaletris, Jeremy Sisto, and Gretchen Mol.
Reflecting on the festival’s mission, Jane Rosenthal, Tribeca Festival Co-Founder and Co-Chair, emphasized the event’s origins as a means of healing within the community. “Tribeca began 25 years ago as an act of healing, a mission to reunite our community through the power of storytelling. Today, that purpose feels more urgent than ever,” she stated. “This year’s incredible feature and short film lineup includes stories from filmmakers who make us think, feel, laugh, cry, and ask why. Tribeca remains dedicated to the artists’ voices and diverse perspectives that challenge us to see one another more clearly.”
