Lana Del Rey Enters the James Bond World with New 007 Theme for ‘First Light’ Video Game

Nearly 15 years after releasing her hit “Video Games,” Lana Del Rey has now unveiled a theme song for a video game. On Thursday, April 16, she surprise-released “First Light,” which will serve as the title track for the upcoming James Bond game of the same name.
“First Light” is a collaboration with renowned Bond film composer David Arnold. The song begins with Del Rey’s haunting vocals, accompanied by a sultry blend of drums, bass, and strings. “Can’t say I’m surprised to see you running towards the sun / Like a moth to a flame,” she sings, as the music builds into a dramatic crescendo featuring brass instruments. “People try and stop you, all the fates just watch you / Dying just to know whether you’ll play your life like a game.”
The “007 First Light” game, developed by IO Interactive in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, is scheduled for release in May. A lyric video posted on Del Rey’s YouTube channel showcases the iconic secret agent, depicted as a rugged, brown-haired man confidently aiming a gun at a distant target.
While not a traditional Bond film theme, Del Rey’s new track adds to the extensive legacy of music associated with the franchise. In 2022, Billie Eilish and Finneas received an Oscar for “No Time to Die,” which was written for the film of the same name. Other notable artists, including Adele, Paul McCartney, and Madonna, have also contributed memorable anthems to the Bond collection over the years.
“First Light” is now available for listening, along with its lyrics.
