Nick Jonas Set to Star in New Netflix Romantic Comedy
Nick Jonas has signed on to star in an untitled romantic comedy for Netflix, directed by Ari Sandel, known for his work on The DUFF. The film’s script is penned by Tamara Chestna, a writer credited with projects like Something from Tiffany’s and Moxie.
The story centers on a lifelong bachelor whose carefree lifestyle is dramatically altered when he unexpectedly inherits his cousin’s infant child. As he begins to adapt to his new role as a father, complications arise when the child’s godmother seeks custody during the holiday season, leading to an unexpected love story.
The film is being produced by Steve Barnett for Monarch Media, with collaboration from Mark Ross of Lincoln Road Films, Spencer Berman and Jonas from Powered by Jonas, and Chestna. Alan Powell and Vicky Patel are on board as executive producers for Monarch.
In recent months, Jonas has had a busy schedule, with his musical dramedy Power Ballad receiving critical acclaim at SXSW. He also recently joined the cast of White Elephant, a holiday horror film starring Kathryn Newton, under a new partnership between MRC, Radio Silence, and Project X. Notably, Jonas also stars alongside Paul Rudd in Power Ballad, set to be released by Lionsgate on June 5. Later this year, he will appear in the upcoming Jumanji film alongside Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart.
Ari Sandel, noted for directing The DUFF, won an Oscar for his USC Film School thesis short West Bank Story and recently directed Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween for Sony.
Chestna is represented by Verve, Industry Entertainment, and attorney Chris Abramson.
