Chris Perfetti from Abbott Elementary Shares Exciting Insights into Jacob’s Backstory and Influences
Fans of Abbott Elementary can look forward to new insights into the character of Jacob, portrayed by Chris Perfetti. In an upcoming interview with People, Perfetti revealed that the latter part of Season 5 will introduce new characters and backstory elements to explain Jacob’s vibrant personality.
“We get to meet some of the people that make Jacob the way he is, and I’m so thrilled by that,” Perfetti shared.
The actor hinted at further development of his character, saying, “And yeah, I think we’re exploring this idea that Jacob, seeing what happens when Jacob gets what he wants. And I would be excited to play around with that next year.”
Previous seasons of the show have touched on Jacob’s personal life, particularly through his relationship with ex-boyfriend Zach (Larry Owens) and his temporary move into Melissa’s (Lisa Ann Walter) spare bedroom. Season 4 introduced Jacob’s younger brother Caleb (Tyler Tomás Perez), adding layers to Jacob’s narrative as he navigates their dynamic.
Although the Quinta Brunson-created series is still awaiting renewal for a sixth season, Perfetti expressed his gratitude for the ongoing creative process. “I feel like as soon as I have a good idea for Jacob, [the writers] have a better one. We get to do some really cool stuff in the second half of Season 5,” he stated.
Showrunner Patrick Schumaker also commented on the direction of the series, indicating that the team is currently working on the final three episodes of Season 5. “There’s some big milestones planned that will clearly set up a dynamic in Season 6,” he noted.
