New Scripted Series Based on ‘Clue’ is in the Works at Peacock from Dana Fox and Nicholas Stoller
Peacock Secures Scripted Adaptation of ‘Clue’ Board Game
Peacock has officially acquired a scripted adaptation of the iconic murder mystery board game, Clue. The hourlong project, crafted by writer and executive producer Dana Fox, along with director and executive producer Nicholas Stoller, is set for development on the platform.
The adaptation is expected to blend comedic elements similar to Rian Johnson’s Knives Out series and his Peacock show, Poker Face. As Poker Face will not return for a third season, Clue may fill that gap, appealing to a loyal audience on the NBCUniversal streaming service.
The arrangement also serves Sony Pictures Television, as Peacock’s U.S.-only access allows the studio to retain international distribution rights, creating a financially advantageous scenario for the indie studio.
Inspired by the beloved game, Clue presents a modern twist on its vibrant cast of characters. The storyline revolves around a diverse group of individuals invited to a billionaire’s murder mystery event, where they seek to unravel classic enigmas: who, where, and with what. However, they quickly learn that appearances can be deceiving, and the stakes are higher than mere life or death.
Dana Fox will serve as both the writer and showrunner, while Nicholas Stoller will direct. The two will executive produce alongside Gabriel Marano from Hasbro Entertainment, Margy Love from Fox’s Foxy, Inc., and Conor Welch from Stoller Global Solutions.
Stoller has recently renewed his overall deal with Sony TV, solidifying his decade-long relationship with the studio. Fox has also entered an overall agreement with Sony and is concurrently developing a U.S. adaptation of the Israeli romantic comedy series Save the Date through the studio’s partnership with Keshet International.
This scripted version of Clue complements an unscripted Clue series, which has been greenlit by Netflix. Both projects emerge from a 2024 agreement between Sony and Hasbro for the film and television rights to the murder mystery franchise.
Since its inception in 1949, Clue has sold over 150 million copies globally. It was previously transformed into a 1985 film featuring Tim Curry. An animated series was under development at Fox several years ago, but that project ultimately did not progress.
Dana Fox has previously worked as a co-writer and executive producer on Wicked and its sequel, Wicked: For Good, and is also involved in an upcoming reboot of Little House On the Prairie for Netflix. Meanwhile, Nicholas Stoller has co-created and executive produced the Apple TV+ series Platonic and was integral to the Hulu series Goosebumps. Stoller is also working on the film Judgment Day, featuring Will Ferrell, which is slated for release through Amazon MGM Studios.
