Margot Robbie Discusses Challenges of Filming Wuthering Heights Postpartum
Margot Robbie has shared insights about her experience filming the upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights, revealing the unique challenges she faced just months after becoming a mother. The actress welcomed her first child with husband Tom Ackerley in October 2024.
In an interview with British Vogue, published on December 4, Robbie opened up about being "three months postpartum" when shooting began. "I was in a very different headspace. I didn’t do my usual routine. It was more haphazard," she explained.
Concerns about her readiness for the role plagued her initially. "I remember saying to [writer-director Emerald Fennell], ‘What if I’m not prepared enough?’ She kept saying, ‘I don’t want you to prepare. I just need you to be in the moment,’" Robbie recounted. This reassurance from Fennell helped relieve her anxiety, emphasizing the importance of being present rather than overthinking.

The Wolf of Wall Street star’s son, whose name is not publicly known, was born on October 17, 2024. A source confirmed that both Robbie and Ackerley are enjoying their new roles as parents, cherishing their time with their baby in Los Angeles. "They’ve both been settling into being parents. They’re homebodies, so it’s been lovely to spend the time just them, at home with him. They’re so happy," the source noted.
Robbie rarely discusses her son but shared with Entertainment Tonight in August 2025 that motherhood has been “the best.” She remarked on the difficulty of explaining the joys of parenthood to those without children, emphasizing the profound changes it has brought to her life.
The new adaptation of Wuthering Heights, featuring Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff and set for release on February 13, 2026, explores the tumultuous romance between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw. The film delves into themes of jealousy, obsession, and class differences, which lead to generations of revenge.

Throughout her conversation with Vogue, Robbie discussed how she, Fennell, and Elordi aimed to capture the romance of the classic novel. They focused on portraying intimacy authentically, going beyond mere physicality. One particular scene that resonated with Robbie depicts Heathcliff carrying Catherine while shielding her from rain. Reflecting on this, she said, “It almost made me weak at the knees.”
Robbie noted that the film is particularly targeted at audiences in their 30s, a demographic often underrepresented in epic romances and period pieces crafted by women.
