New F1 Game Teased by Racing Sport CEO at Apple TV Event
The primary focus during the Apple TV press day was the anticipated question of whether a sequel to the highest-grossing sports film of all time, *F1*, would be produced. The film is notable for having garnered four Academy Award nominations.
During a Q&A session, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, Eddie Cue, posed this question to Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. His response was simply, “Stay tuned.”
Domenicali elaborated, stating, “We’re going to tell you something more in the future. We need to digest the success of this movie. If you want to think of a new one, it has to be very good.”
*F1* not only stands as the highest-grossing sports film globally, with over $631 million in revenue, but it also marks Brad Pitt’s highest-grossing film and is Apple Original Films’ top theatrical release to date. The movie was jointly distributed and marketed by Warner Bros.
Domenicali commented on the significance of the film’s success, saying, “That F1 would be able to be talked about in another dimension like Hollywood, we didn’t think was possible.”
During the session, Cue and Domenicali discussed Apple’s recent collaboration with F1, which enables subscribers to stream the sport without any additional cost. Cue noted that Apple TV serves as a single platform for all F1 content, including qualifying and spring races, all available in 4K and Dolby sound for the first time.
Cue expressed enthusiasm regarding Apple’s capabilities, stating, “We’re going to bring everything behind Apple — Apple Maps, Apple Music — to bear upon the fans. It’s an incredibly exciting time doing this together.”
Domenicali emphasized the importance of relevance in their partnership, saying, “Relevancy is the key to our success, relevancy in the right platform.”
Looking ahead, Cue remarked on the potential for further collaborations, stating, “We got 24 *F1* movies on Apple TV. I don’t know what the ending is. It’s the best unscripted drama in the world.”
