New Documentary ‘Human II Forever’ on Dementia to Follow Up on ‘Human Forever,’ Coming in 2026
EXCLUSIVE: A sequel to the acclaimed feature documentary Human Forever is currently in production. Titled Human II Forever, the film is set for release in 2026.
Human Forever made history as the most-watched human interest documentary in Dutch cinema. Directed by Jonathan de Jong, the film followed humanitarian activist Teun Toebes on his three-year journey around the globe to enhance the lives of individuals living with dementia. In the sequel, De Jong and Toebes reunite to explore community formation and their potential to address loneliness, isolation, and the growing demand for care.
Toebes has garnered recognition as “the Greta Thunberg of healthcare.” Human Forever premiered in 2023 at the G20 summit, where NATO Secretary-General and former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte described it as “a monument to all people with dementia and their loved ones, worldwide.”

The first installment achieved 80,000 admissions in the Netherlands and received the Golden Calf award at the Netherlands Film Festival. It was later acquired by Arte in France, ZDF in Germany, VRT in Belgium, and Videoland in the Netherlands.
Production for Human II Forever is actively underway, with filming locations including Brazil, New Zealand, Samoa, the USA, Germany, Curaçao, France, Japan, Tanzania, and the Netherlands. Currently, the crew is filming in Morocco, China, and the UK.
De Jong, head of the Amsterdam-based indie production company SUPER7EVEN, stated, “Traveling the world with Human Forever showed us that hope already exists through communities and initiatives quietly proving there is a better way to live together. Human II Forever will take that ethos to the next level and show how these examples can help us build more inclusive societies for all of us, whatever the need is. If we begin seeing each other differently, we can start acting differently.”
