Netflix Streamlines Mobile Experience with New Vertical Video Feed for Better Engagement
After a significant update to its main user interface last year, Netflix has now revamped its mobile app, introducing a new vertical video feed aimed at enhancing user engagement.
Dubbed “Clips,” this feature is designed to align with modern mobile usage, which favors quick, visually appealing interactions. In a press release, the company stated, “Think of ‘Clips’ as a personalized highlight reel that helps you decide what to watch or play next, without endless scrolling. You’ll see short clips from series, films, and specials tailored to your tastes, with an easy way to go deeper when something grabs your attention.”
The new feed will soon also feature podcasts, live programming, and genre-specific collections, such as romance and other interests.
The trend of short-form vertical video is gaining traction across the streaming industry, influenced by platforms like TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels. Recent months have seen companies like Disney+ and Peacock announce their own vertical video initiatives.
Elizabeth Stone, Chief Product and Technology Officer, emphasized the importance of these enhancements. “With our enhanced navigation and Clips, our new vertical video feed, we’re building on past learnings to deliver an experience designed for the way members want to enjoy Netflix on their phones: for the moments in between, to discover a new title, or a quick laugh,” she noted. “Our vision is to make our mobile experience as entertaining as what you watch, delivering increasingly personalized, immersive experiences for any mood or moment. This is just the beginning.”
These updates became available on Thursday in the U.S., UK, Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and South Africa, with plans for a global rollout in the coming months.
