Neon Takes Over James Gray’s ‘Paper Tiger’
Neon has officially acquired James Gray’s latest feature, Paper Tiger.
Written and directed by Gray, the film features a star-studded cast, including Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson, and Miles Teller. The narrative is described as both tense and gritty, focusing on two brothers who chase the American Dream, only to find themselves ensnared in a scheme that proves to be too idyllic.
The official synopsis states that as the brothers navigate a perilous world filled with corruption and violence, they and their family face brutal terror at the hands of the Russian “Mafiya.” As their bond begins to unravel, the threat of betrayal, once unimaginable, becomes increasingly likely.
Produced by Rodrigo Teixeira under RT Features and Anthony Katagas under AK Productions, the film also includes contributions from Raffaella Leone, Gary Farkas, Marco Perego, Carlo Salem, and Andrea Bucko. Executive producers are Lee Broda, Jeff Rice, Riccardo Maddalosso, and Emily Salveson.
Watch on Deadline
Paper Tiger was notably absent from the official Cannes lineup announced last week, despite being considered a strong contender for one of this year’s late additions. With a U.S. distribution deal secured, an official announcement from the festival is expected soon.
A seasoned participant at Cannes, Gray’s previous film, Armageddon Time, premiered at the festival in 2022 and was released in the United States by Focus Features.
The Neon deal was first reported by Variety.
