NBC Greenlights New Crime Drama Pilot Based on Profiler Ann Burgess’s Work by Dean Georgaris and John Fox
NBC has approved a new drama pilot, marking the third such commitment in as many days. This untitled one-hour series comes from Dean Georgaris, creator of The Brave, along with John Fox, president of Davis Entertainment, and Universal Television.
The script, penned by Georgaris and Fox, takes inspiration from the work of Dr. Ann Burgess, a noted profiler and author, who is also the subject of the upcoming 2024 Hulu docuseries Mastermind: To Think Like a Killer. Burgess’s contributions to criminology notably influenced the Netflix series Mindhunter.
In this NBC drama, Professor Georgia Ryan is depicted as a pioneering psychologist who redefines criminology by directing attention to the victim rather than solely the perpetrator. This approach aims to uncover critical clues often overlooked by traditional methods. Working alongside her team, Ryan collaborates with the FBI to solve some of the most perplexing cases.
Georgaris will serve as an executive producer alongside John Davis and Fox from Davis Entertainment, with Burgess and Steven Constantine on board as consulting producers. Universal Television, part of the Universal Studio Group, has a long history with both Georgaris and Davis Entertainment.
This project represents a renewed collaboration between Georgaris and Davis Entertainment, which previously worked together on the high-concept procedural Blank Slate in 2021, also set up at NBC with a put pilot commitment.
Over the past few years, three pilots written by Georgaris for Universal Television have progressed to series, including The Brave and Bluff City Law at NBC and Baker and the Beauty at ABC. Recently, he served as the executive producer and showrunner for the reboot of Quantum Leap on NBC/Universal Television.
Davis Entertainment’s portfolio includes notable series such as The Blacklist, The Equalizer, and Magnum P.I.
