Nathan Kahane Introduces True North with Support from Entertainment 360
Nathan Kahane Launches True North Amid Industry Shifts
Veteran indie producer and studio executive Nathan Kahane has officially launched True North, marking a significant move in the current landscape of film production. The venture secured financial backing from Entertainment 360 and aims to create and finance commercially viable artistic films designed for a rapidly evolving industry.
This initiative comes as Kahane’s first major endeavor since departing Lionsgate last fall after the exit of his longtime partner and mentor, Joe Drake. Prior to this, Kahane held the position of President of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.
Kahane brings several ongoing projects from Lionsgate to True North, including Karoshi, Day Drinker, Devil’s Mouth, and American Psycho. These films will help establish his new company as he begins to hire staff and develop its operational foundation.
True North intends to foster creativity by not only producing films but also supporting emerging filmmakers through financing and strategic guidance. The company’s model emphasizes shared risks and rewards, offering a fresh approach in response to the ongoing challenges within theatrical and streaming distribution.
Importantly, True North is not a subsidiary of Entertainment 360, although the two entities share a common vision. The management and production company aims to enhance value for creatives deeply invested in their projects and aligns with its capital partner, The Carlyle Group. Any potential collaboration would occur organically, with a focus on Kahane’s goals.
Kahane’s extensive experience and proven track record in the industry are central to his new venture. His previous work includes notable successes such as Knives Out, Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and the John Wick franchise during his tenure at Lionsgate. His legacy also includes contributions to films like Juno, Harold and Kumar, and Stranger than Fiction from his time at Good Universe and Mandate.
