Natasha Lyonne, Sean Lennon, and Evan Ross Team Up for Ariadne’s First Docuseries on Transhumanism: A Look at ‘Vitruvian Scumbag’
Natasha Lyonne, Evan Ross, and Sean Lennon Launch Indie Studio Ariadne
In a significant development in the entertainment industry, actress Natasha Lyonne, actor Evan Ross, and musician Sean Lennon have established a new indie studio called Ariadne. The venture has commenced production on its inaugural project, the transhumanism docuseries Vitruvian Scumbag, which began filming last month.
The studio’s name, inspired by Greek mythology, represents the trio’s vision of creating a revenue-sharing platform for creators. Ariadne aims to facilitate navigation through intellectual property, wellness technology, production, distribution, and the digital economy.
With an impressive pedigree, Ariadne benefits from the backing of prominent media and tech investors. The team includes Oscar-winning Lennon and Ross’s House of Ross, along with Lyonne, a co-creator of Russian Doll and star of Poker Face. The studio’s advisory board is made up of notable figures such as Lilly Wachowski, Rustic Canyon, Jana Bezek, Lana Kim, Tiffany Haddish, and others, enhancing its collective expertise.
Vitruvian Scumbag, which commenced shooting in April, is designed to leverage the strengths of its founders and advisors to explore the essence of life in the technology-driven 21st century.
“Hopefully sharing my journey helps someone else,” Lyonne stated about the docuseries. “I’ve seen the talking points boasting a host of foregone conclusions around futurism, that only reinforced an instinct to get boots to the ground. No human being should be swept under the corporate rug of inconvenience or live in abject terror of technological replacement. This new docuseries has been an invigorating deep dive; it’s raw and real and asks the big questions — which are the fun ones.”
The docuseries will include discussions with a panel of neuroscientists and technology experts, featuring prominent voices like Megan Thee Stallion, Fred Armisen, and VR pioneer Jaron Lanier, and will address contemporary issues surrounding life, health, and wealth.
In addition to her contributions to Ariadne and Vitruvian Scumbag, Lyonne is set to appear in the third season of HBO’s Euphoria and the upcoming film Klara and the Sun, directed by Taika Waititi. Furthermore, she has recently been involved in establishing an AI copyright-focused studio, Asteria, and is a founding member of the Creator’s Coalition on AI.
Lyonne’s slate also includes the Paul Giamatti-starring film Only Apparently Real, the Tribeca-premiering ChickaBOOM!, the co-created Uncanny Valley, a Joan Rivers biopic, and the Lyonne-directed Bambo.
Meanwhile, Evan Ross, the CEO of Film Mafia Entertainment, recently wrapped filming on Sean McEwan’s indie dramedy Turnbuckle, featuring an ensemble that includes Emile Hirsch and Kate Beckinsale. Ross has also been seen on The Masked Singer this year as the audience favorite, Stingray.
In a related note, Lennon has endorsed the use of AI in creative projects. He is serving as an executive producer for the upcoming animated short film War Is Over! Inspired by the Music of John & Yoko, which is poised for a 2024 Academy Award nomination. Lennon has also participated in the concert documentary One to One: John & Yoko and made a guest appearance in the first season of Lyonne’s Poker Face.
The launch of Ariadne marks a new chapter for its founders as they seek to navigate the evolving landscape of the entertainment industry.
