This appearance marked McCartney’s fifth time serving as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live, and his first performance since returning to the iconic stage after a hiatus of more than 13 years. Previously, he made musical guest appearances in 1980, 1993, 2010, and 2012.
Opening the night, McCartney performed “Days We Left Behind,” the lead single from his upcoming album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, set to be released on May 29.
Following that, he delivered a spirited rendition of “Band on the Run,” the classic hit from McCartney and Wings that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974.
In addition to his musical performances, McCartney showcased his comedic side during the show, appearing in a sketch where he co-starred with Ferrell and actor Marcello Hernández as mechanics involved in a humorous swindle.
As the show drew to a close, viewers anticipated a quick farewell from McCartney alongside Ferrell and the SNL cast. However, the show extended for an encore, allowing McCartney to perform his 1980 hit “Coming Up,” while the SNL cast joined him in a celebratory dance.
McCartney’s performances of “Days We Left Behind” and “Band on the Run” can be found below. However, at the time of publication, his concluding performance of “Coming Up” had not yet been uploaded to the SNL YouTube channel.
