Morena Baccarin Shares How She Balances It All
Morena Baccarin is entering a dynamic phase in her acting career, marked by a robust filmography and a series of notable projects. Arriving from a filming session in Canada for a shoot this weekend, Baccarin remains composed and focused, eager to produce impactful work and return to her family, including husband Ben McKenzie and their three children.
This fall, Baccarin will reprise her role as Mickey Fox in CBS’s Fire Country and its spin-off, Sheriff Country. She is also set to reunite with Gerard Butler in the anticipated film Greenland: Migration in January. Fresh off her appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine, she continues to balance high-profile blockbusters with critically acclaimed independent films such as Elevation and Edward Burns’s Millers in Marriage. Additionally, she stars as The Sorceress in the still-streaming Masters of the Universe and has a role in The Wrecking Crew.
Baccarin’s talent has not gone unnoticed; she received an Emmy nomination for her work on Homeland and gained widespread recognition for her role in the cult classic Firefly. Born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in New York, Baccarin is a Juilliard graduate who dedicates her time to charitable efforts, including her work with the International Rescue Committee and the arts nonprofit Waterwell.
Reflecting on her projects, Baccarin noted the success of Fire Country, stating, “I get confused all the time! We’re doing Something Country! All I know is next up is Wine Country. It feels great. I got sucked into the show immediately when I started watching it for a little research. I think these guys know quite well how to do that perfect combination of intrigue and melodrama and soapy problem-solving. It’s really fun.”
Discussing her character, she added, “I was drawn immediately to how easy this character is to identify with. I think she’s somebody that everybody’s going to want to be friends with. Also, she’s doing some pretty big and heroic things, and there’s a lot of comedy in it as well. I think she’s a very down-to-earth character.” Baccarin finds her role engaging, highlighting the blend of drama and action: “It all depends on the day. We have a good amount of talking about the case, which is always really fun, and putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Then there are some very active days where there’s a lot of running or fighting. I just did a stunt scene recently that was really scrappy and really hard. Definitely walked away with some bruises. It’s good. It’s equal parts using your brain and then physicality.”
To unwind amid her busy schedule, Baccarin finds solace in swimming. “Oh my God, that’s so funny. Today, yes, I went to the pool! I find that it’s really helpful—it’s very meditative, and it’s good exercise. I try to do a combination of a lot of different things to keep myself not bored, but swimming laps is still one of my favorites,” she remarked.

Baccarin emphasizes the importance of staying grounded in her personal life, stating, “Kids are pretty good at reminding you of what reality is and where you actually belong, so it’s not hard.” She also shared insights into her beauty routine, mentioning a favorite skincare wand that helps her maintain a fresh appearance during long hours: “I’ve become utterly obsessed. I have some very long hours, and I like to do this easy routine of putting on an eye patch and then turning on the cold setting to get my face nice and awake in the morning. It’s really good.”
Looking ahead, Baccarin offers a simple yet profound piece of advice: “Just stay true to yourself and listen to your gut.”
