Miley Cyrus Discusses New Music for Avatar: Fire and Ash
Miley Cyrus recently sat down with PEOPLE to discuss her latest musical endeavor, the song “Dream As One,” which serves as the credits track for the upcoming film Avatar: Fire and Ash, set to debut in theaters on December 19, 2025.
The 33-year-old singer-songwriter collaborated with director James Cameron, following a chance meeting at a Disney event where both were recognized as Disney Legends. Cyrus expressed her interest in contributing to the film’s soundtrack during that encounter. “I kind of throw it out there as I always do,” she recounted. “I already knew the answer to, ‘So what have you been up to?’ I know he’s been up to Avatar for a very long time.”
Cyrus’ proposal to Cameron came at a pivotal moment in the development of the ambitious Avatar series, which includes a total of five planned films. “Just lemme know if you ever need any music,” she recalled offering, noting how the opportunity presented itself organically. Cameron humorously referred to them as “Legends in law,” highlighting their shared recognition.

Cyrus emphasized her proactive approach to connecting with filmmakers, recounting how she offered her songwriting services to various Hollywood stars. “That’s why I went to the Oscars this year," she said. “Everybody that came up and introduced themselves, I said, ‘Well, if you need any music, I’m around.’”
This strategy proved effective in her previous work, including her contribution of the Golden Globe-nominated song “Beautiful That Way” for Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl, starring Pamela Anderson. “I did the same thing to [Last Showgirl star] Jamie Lee Curtis,” she humorously noted, further illustrating her eagerness to create music for diverse projects.
Even as she continues to pursue her passion for songwriting, Cyrus remains deeply connected to the emotional weight of film music. “I really feel myself attached to songs. There’s certain songs that even if they were written for the film or just a song used in the film, like ‘I Will Always Love You,’ you immediately think of the movie itself and they become embedded,” she explained.
Cyrus’ recent acting roles include a cameo in last year’s Drive-Away Dolls and portraying herself in the 2022 production Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is officially in theaters now.
