Mike Trout Hits Another Home Run as Angels Dominate the Yankees
NEW YORK— In an impressive display of power, Mike Trout launched his fifth home run of the series, leading the Los Angeles Angels to an 11-4 victory over the New York Yankees on Thursday afternoon. This win allowed the Angels to split the four-game series.
Trout’s performance was notable as he adjusted his swing mechanics recently. Throughout the series, he batted .375, connecting for five homers and driving in nine runs. His latest blast came in the seventh inning, where he deposited a 2-2 slider from reliever Angel Chivilli into the left-field bleachers, extending his team’s lead to 7-4.
This marks Trout’s fifth consecutive game with a home run at Yankee Stadium, a feat achieved by only three others—Jimmie Foxx (1933), Darrell Evans (1985), and George Bell (1990), according to MLB researcher Sarah Langs.
Despite Trout’s success, the Yankees struggled, especially with Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton hitting homers in the same contest. Historically, the Yankees held a record of 53-8 in games where both players hit home runs.
Jo Adell also contributed significantly, hitting a grand slam in the eighth inning, helping the Angels secure their position as leaders in the American League with a total of 32 home runs.
Initially, Judge’s first-inning homer and Stanton’s two-run shot gave the Yankees a 3-2 edge by the fourth inning. However, the Angels responded with a four-run sixth inning against pitcher Max Fried (2-1) and reliever Fernando Cruz, including a two-run homer from former Yankee Oswald Peraza.
The sixth inning also saw Vaughn Grissom deliver a go-ahead RBI single and Josh Lowe add a two-run single to push the score to 6-3.
This defeat marked the Yankees’ seventh loss in their last nine games. Fried struggled on the mound, allowing five runs and three hits over 5 1/3 innings, while manager Aaron Boone was ejected for the first time this season during the eighth inning.
Brent Suter started the game for the Angels, tossing two-plus innings, whereas Sam Aldegheri (1-0) allowed one run in his 1 2/3 innings of relief.
