Mike Flanagan and Stephen King Team Up Again for Warner Bros’ ‘The Mist’ Movie
Warner Bros. Announces New Adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist with Mike Flanagan
Warner Bros. is set to reunite with filmmaker Mike Flanagan for a new adaptation of Stephen King’s acclaimed novella The Mist. Flanagan will take the helm as director and writer, producing the project through his company, Red Room, alongside Tyler Thompson, Spyglass Media Group’s Gary Barber, and Chris Stone. Alexandra Magistro will serve as executive producer for Red Room.
The narrative of The Mist unfolds in a small Maine town enveloped by a dense, mysterious fog from which creatures emerge to attack residents. A group of survivors seeks refuge in a local grocery store, where the chaos of their situation reveals the spectrum of human behavior—ranging from heroic acts to the rise of mob mentality, and unhinged extremism, making them as dangerous as the external threats they face.
Originally featured in King’s 1985 short story collection Skeleton Crew, this chilling tale has been previously adapted into a film in 2007 and a television series in 2017.
Flanagan has made significant contributions to adaptations of King’s work, directing films such as Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and the upcoming Life of Chuck. He is also developing a miniseries adaptation of King’s first published novel, Carrie, for Prime Video.
Flanagan is represented by WME and VanderKloot Law, while Stephen King is represented by Rand Holston and Gang Tyre.
