MGM and Mattel Team Up to Bring the Classic ‘Masters of the Universe’ Toy Series to Life on Film
The first teaser for Masters Of The Universe, a live-action adventure film inspired by the iconic 1980s toy brand, has been unveiled by MGM and Mattel.
The movie features a star-studded cast that includes Nicholas Galitzine, Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, and Charlotte Riley. Kristen Wiig lends her voice to the character Roboto, while Jared Leto and Idris Elba also play pivotal roles.
The plot follows Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine), who, after being separated from his home for 15 years, is guided back to Eternia by the Sword of Power. Upon his return, he finds his homeland in ruins under the tyrannical rule of Skeletor (Jared Leto). To save his family and restore peace, Adam teams up with his closest allies, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), and embraces his destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe.
Directed by Travis Knight, the film features a screenplay crafted by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, and Dave Callaham, with Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, Alex Litvak, and Michael Finch credited for the story. The production team includes Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, Steve Tisch, and DeVon Franklin, while executive producers are Ynon Kreiz, Bill Bannerman, and David Bloomfield.
Set to hit theaters in the U.S. on June 5, the film will be released by Sony Pictures International Releasing.
