Melissa McCarthy in Discussions to Star in Thriller ‘Turpentine’ Directed by Craig Zobel, Produced by T-Street and ShivHans Pictures
The upcoming film Turpentine, based on a script by Justin Varava that appeared on the 2024 Black List, tells the story of a deadbeat son who recruits friends to rob his parents in a desperate attempt to settle a debt with a bookie, leading to disastrous consequences.
Production will be handled by T-Street and ShivHans Pictures.
Melissa McCarthy, a multiple Emmy Award winner, is set to star. She has received two Oscar nominations for her roles in Can You Ever Forgive Me? and Bridesmaids. McCarthy will next appear alongside Clive Owen in Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey on Paramount+. Additionally, she will voice a lead role opposite Tony Award winner Cole Escola in Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s Margie Claus. She is represented by CAA and Mgmt Entertainment.

Filmmaker Craig Zobel, known for his work in movies like Compliance and Z for Zachariah, has transitioned to prestigious television with credits that include The Leftovers, American Gods, Westworld, Mare of Easttown, and The Penguin. A winner of a DGA Award and a three-time Emmy nominee, Zobel also directed the satirical horror film The Hunt, featuring Betty Gilpin and Hilary Swank. He is repped by CAA, Entertainment 360, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
T-Street, founded by Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman, recently completed Wake Up Dead Man, the third film in their Knives Out franchise. Upcoming projects include Sony Pictures Classics’ The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, starring John Turturro, and Neon’s A Place in Hell, featuring Michelle Williams and Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Recent productions from ShivHans Pictures include Ice Road: Vengeance, The Wedding Banquet, Winner, and The Assessment.
