Influencer Melissa Mae Carlton has shared a solemn medical update following the tragic death of her youngest daughter, Molly, who died unexpectedly on Christmas Day. This announcement comes just over a year after their older daughter, Abigail, passed away in April 2024 after a sepsis battle.
In a post on social media, Melissa explained the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the loss of Molly. “The doctors believe Molly had a genetic heart condition and suspect this may have been the case with Abi as well,” she said.
In April 2024, Melissa and her husband, Tom Carlton, revealed that their daughter Abigail “unexpectedly passed over to the other side” at the age of nine after a battle with sepsis. At the time, Melissa expressed her overwhelming grief, stating, “There are no words to express how heartbroken and devastated we are.” She shared her mixed feelings of pain and peace, emphasizing the void left by Abigail’s passing.
Just over a year later, Melissa disclosed the tragic news of Molly’s death. In her emotional recounting, she stated, “On Christmas morning, our sweet Molly girl and her big sister Abi were reunited.” The post provided a glimpse of comfort amidst despair, revealing that Molly had often questioned, “Mummy, when is Jesus coming back so Abi can come down?”
Melissa expressed the overwhelming nature of this double tragedy, saying, “We are devastated. In disbelief. Confused and in shock.” She mentioned feeling exhausted and shaken after enduring such profound heartbreak.
Hours later, she provided a medical update amidst public speculation surrounding Molly’s sudden death. “I hesitate to share a medical update already because we still don’t have an official diagnosis. But I do feel it’s important to let people know that we have some answers this time,” she explained. She confirmed that doctors believe Molly’s condition had similar genetic implications as Abigail’s.
Further, Melissa articulated her hope that sharing her daughters’ stories might bring awareness and support to other families facing sudden unexpected deaths in children. “We’ve been told that even a minor illness could potentially trigger a sudden cardiac event,” she noted.
She concluded her update by expressing her gratitude for the support she and her family have received, hoping for further insights into their family’s medical history and ongoing genetic investigations.
