Lin-Manuel Miranda is instilling his passion for the arts in his children, Sebastian and Francisco. The renowned composer and lyricist, known for his work on Broadway and film, shared insights into his family life, emphasizing their importance to him.
Miranda first met his wife, Vanessa Nadal, in high school. They reconnected through Facebook in 2005, leading to their marriage in 2010. While Miranda has made a name in the entertainment industry, Nadal has carved out a successful career that merges her chemical engineering background with a law degree.
The couple welcomed their son, Sebastian, in 2014, followed by Francisco in 2018. Despite Miranda’s high-profile career, he and Nadal have prioritized their children’s upbringing away from the public eye.
“Watching my kids grow is a joy,” Miranda expressed. “The other day, my six-year-old told me that one of my songs was too long. I have two little test audiences!”
Though Miranda and Nadal keep their children’s faces off social media, they occasionally share glimpses of family life, showcasing moments of laughter and celebration.

Sebastian, born on November 10, 2014, is following in his father’s artistic footsteps. Not only does he show musical talent, but he has also written songs, including one about chocolate crepes. Miranda added, “They’re invariably about breakfast.”
Sebastian often provides insights during his father’s creative process. He has been known to comment on what he hears while Miranda writes, leading to amusing exchanges. “Sebastian came home and said, ‘Daddy, that one’s catchy. I almost sang it at school,’” Miranda remarked, noting their family holds informal discussions about privacy and appropriateness.

Francisco joined the family on February 2, 2018. He too has embraced music and has even written a song about Cheerios, similar to his brother’s breakfast-themed compositions.
Miranda shared the joy of watching Francisco emulate Sebastian during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Even though my six-year-old has homework a few times a week, my two-year-old is like, ‘I have to do my homework,’” he recounted. This desire to follow in his brother’s footsteps has significantly influenced Francisco’s development.
As both sons grow, Miranda continues to highlight their milestones, showcasing their shared interests in music and creativity. The family remains dedicated to fostering a love for the arts while nurturing a close family bond.
