Maya Erskine from ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ Takes the Helm for A24 and Fruit Tree’s New Teen Comedy
Emma Stone, Dave McCary, and Ali Herting are producing a new film under their banner, Fruit Tree, alongside Tim Headington and Theresa Steele Page from Ley Line Entertainment, which is co-financing the project.
Details about the film’s plot are currently confidential, but it has become a significant priority for A24. The studio, along with Fruit Tree, emerged victorious in a competitive bidding war to acquire the spec script, which garnered considerable attention despite lacking attached talent—a rarity for comedy projects. Insiders report that the script’s quality was remarkable, attracting multiple bidders before A24 and Fruit Tree secured the deal.
Although this marks her feature debut, director Paloma Erskine’s pitch impressed both the studio and producers, paving the way for her first major directing opportunity.

Erskine has previously made her mark as a writer and director for episodes of the Emmy-nominated Hulu series Pen15.
As an actress, she gained recognition through her role in the Amazon MGM Studios series Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The studio recently announced that Erskine and co-star Donald Glover will reprise their roles for Season 2, which is currently in production following a delay last year.
