Written by Mark Edwin Robinson, Hal draws inspiration from the real-life story behind the humanitarian organization Convoy of Hope. The narrative follows Hal Donaldson (Ludwig), a journalist whose early hardships shape his belief that his voice can pave the way forward. His relationship with Doree (Roberts), a talented musician, serves as an anchor as Hal’s career exposes him to profound suffering.
As Hal encounters crisis and inequality, he begins to see the need for action over mere observation. Faced with the limitations of storytelling alone, he feels drawn to a calling that compels him toward the creation of Convoy of Hope.
Since its inception in 1994, Convoy of Hope has provided hundreds of millions of meals and access to clean water for millions worldwide. The organization is recognized for its extensive disaster relief operations, long-term community development programs, and its ability to forge public-private partnerships to assist those in need.
Filming for Hal takes place in locations across Atlanta and Colombia, with production managed by Zero Gravity Management. Previously announced cast members include Ernie Hudson, Leslie Bibb, Aidan Quinn, and Jeffrey Donovan.
