Matt Damon Joins Pete Hegseth and Kash Patel for a Fun Night Out on ‘Saturday Night Live’
Saturday Night Live Features Hegseth and Kavanaugh in Recent Cold Open
In a lively return to its cold open sketches, Saturday Night Live (SNL) featured cast member Colin Jost as Pete Hegseth and Aziz Ansari as Kash Patel. The duo was joined by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, portrayed by Matt Damon, in a comedic exploration of political themes.
Following Ansari’s debut as Patel last week, SNL revisited similar ground, showcasing a humorous take on recent controversies surrounding the figures. The skit commenced at Martin’s Tavern, a historic Georgetown venue, where Kavanaugh appeared in his robe, holding a gavel—a nod to the scrutiny both he and Hegseth faced during their respective confirmation hearings regarding allegations of excessive drinking.
“Hey, can I just say that we are both kicking ass right now,” Damon’s Kavanaugh quipped.
The conversation shifted as Hegseth mused, “Dude, can you believe I just, like, started a war?”
Kavanaugh retorted, “Can you believe I ended abortion? Your body, my choice.”
The justice then inquired about the war’s progress, to which Hegseth responded, “Oh, it’s totally chill. It’s like me at a DWI checkpoint. It completely blew over.”
The skit also touched on the Supreme Court’s recent ruling affecting the Voting Rights Act, leading to significant redistricting in Southern states to dilute Democratic representation. Notably, the carving up of a Black majority district in Memphis raised concerns about electoral fairness.
At one point, Kavanaugh humorously displayed a poorly drawn shape. “It’s the new voting district that I approved in Tennessee,” he claimed, before correcting himself, “Actually, no, that’s a field sobriety test. They told me to draw a circle.”
The sketch further featured Patel showcasing his personalized bourbon, humorously noting, “I bring my own alcohol to bars because sometimes they think I’m a kid with a fake ID. They say, no adult would make this face in official photos.” Ansari then exaggerated his expression for comedic effect.
Kavanaugh teased Patel about a rumor, asking, “Is that rumor true that you make everybody in the FBI take a polygraph?”
Patel responded with a laugh, “No, I told them to make a graphy of everyone in the FBI who is Polly. My girlfriend wants to open up our relationship. Yeah. She wants to bring other dudes into the bedroom and for me to stay in the living room.”
The humor escalated as Kavanaugh shared a supposed secret with Hegseth and Patel: “We’re gonna let Trump do a third term,” eliciting wild reactions from the duo.
“I thought that was unconstitutional,” Hegseth interjected, to which Kavanaugh replied, “Yeah, it was, but Trump found the original and at the end, he wrote, ‘Psych! We’re going to live forever.’”
This skit marked another instance of SNL blending political commentary with humor, resonating with the ongoing dialogue around these significant national issues.
