Peabody Awards Celebrate Outstanding Winners: From ‘Heated Rivalry’ to ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ and Oscar Winner ‘Mr. Nobody Against Putin’
Peabody Awards Recognize Outstanding Achievements in Media
The 86th annual Peabody Awards, announced on Thursday, celebrate a diverse array of winners including the Oscar-winning documentary Mr Nobody Against Putin, Emmy-winning series Adolescence and The Pitt, and popular programs such as Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Pluribus, and Heated Rivalry. This year’s honorees represent compelling storytelling across a range of pressing issues, including the ongoing war in Gaza, immigration challenges, ICE actions, and the recent Los Angeles wildfires.
Among 68 nominees, a total of 34 winners were selected, showcasing what the Peabody committee deemed the most captivating and inspiring narratives in broadcasting and streaming over the past year. Categories included Entertainment, Documentary, News, Podcast and Radio, Arts, Children’s/Youth, and Interactive & Immersive genres.
In the Entertainment category, Jimmy Kimmel Live! received recognition for Kimmel’s ability to navigate a turbulent situation following an altercation with the FCC, where he was temporarily taken off air. Peabody jurors commended Kimmel for his “master class in public apology” regarding comments about Charlie Kirk, while affirming his right to critique the presidency and the MAGA movement.
HBO Max’s Heated Rivalry also garnered accolades for its nuanced exploration of sexuality and emotional connection, addressing themes of non-toxic masculinity and demonstrating significant cultural impact.
ABC News and KABC’s coverage of the devastating January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires was also highlighted for its responsible journalism, illustrating both the disaster’s impact and the community’s resilience.
Among other notable winners were series such as Andor, The Rehearsal, and Forever in the Entertainment category; and documentaries including No Other Land, Come See Me in the Good Light, Pee-wee As Himself, and Put Your Soul On Your Hand and Walk. Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s documentary Sly Lives! (a.k.a. The Burden of Black Genius) was recognized in the Arts category, with Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur being the sole Children’s/Youth winner this year.
HBO Max led all platforms with six wins, followed by Apple TV, Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, and PBS, each securing two awards.
The Peabodys, organized by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism, will honor the winners during a ceremony on May 31 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Amy Poehler will receive the Peabody Career Achievement Award, along with Sterlin Harjo as the Peabody Trailblazer, James L. Brooks as the Peabody Industry Icon, and PBS Kids receiving the Peabody Institutional Award.

"Restrained" (ABC / KMBC 9): An investigation into the abuses of restraint devices in prisons, revealing their link to deaths and serious injuries.
"The Rise and Fall of Terrorgram" (PBS): A look at radicalization fueled by online extremism, connecting various mass shootings to a coordinated campaign by white supremacists.
This year’s Peabody Awards underscore the importance of engaging storytelling across various media platforms, addressing critical social issues and celebrating the resilience and creativity of the communities involved.
