Marco Reus Shines with Two Goals in Galaxy’s Win Against Real Salt Lake
Reus Leads Galaxy to Victory Over Real Salt Lake
In a thrilling match on Sunday, Marco Reus propelled the LA Galaxy to a 2-1 victory against Real Salt Lake with two critical goals, including a decisive penalty in the 85th minute.
Reus opened the scoring early in the ninth minute, delivering a stunning free kick from 21 yards after Gabriel Pec was fouled by Real Salt Lake midfielder Stijn Spierings. The Galaxy held a 1-0 lead until the final moments of the first half, when an unfortunate own goal by Galaxy goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski leveled the score at 1-1 in stoppage time. Attempting to save Zavier Gozo’s shot, Marcinkowski misdirected the ball off the post and into his net.
The pivotal moment came late in the match when Reus converted a penalty kick following a foul on Sam Junqua, who pushed Elijah Wynder during a corner kick. This marked Reus’s fourth goal of the season and the 10th goal of his career in 37 appearances.
Galaxy goalkeeper Marcinkowski demonstrated resilience, making nine saves throughout the match. His counterpart, Rafael Cabral, had four saves for Real Salt Lake.
Real Salt Lake, which had previously enjoyed a six-match unbeaten streak with five wins and one draw, stumbled to a defeat following a recent 2-0 loss to Inter Miami. The team now stands at 1-2-1 on the road, while the Galaxy, coming off a mixed road trip, improved their home record to 2-2-1.
