Mandy Patinkin Joins the Cast as Odin in Prime Video’s ‘God of War’
EXCLUSIVE: Mandy Patinkin, known for his roles in Homeland and The Princess Bride, has been cast as Odin in Prime Video’s adaptation of God of War, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. This television series reimagines the ancient mythologies featured in the popular PlayStation video game.
Odin, referred to as the All-Father, may not resemble a traditional powerful deity, but he wields significant influence as the most formidable Aesir god. As a patriarch, he navigates the complexities of leadership with a fierce hand while relentlessly pursuing knowledge. Paranoid and manipulative in his quest to avert Ragnarök—the prophesied end of the world—Odin poses a serious challenge to Kratos, played by Ryan Hurst.
The series is helmed by writer, showrunner, and executive producer Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on Outlander and For All Mankind. God of War chronicles the journey of father and son, Kratos and his 10-year-old son Atreus, as they aim to fulfill the last wishes of their wife and mother, Faye. Throughout their adventure, Kratos endeavors to teach Atreus the ways of a god, while Atreus seeks to guide Kratos toward becoming a better human.

The cast features Teresa Palmer as Phoebe/Sif, the goddess of family and wife of Thor; Max Parker as Heimdall, the Watchman of Asgard and one of Odin’s sons; and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, who will portray the iconic Thor.
Recently awarded a two-season order, God of War is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in partnership with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. In addition to Moore, the executive team includes Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. The directing duties for the first two episodes will be undertaken by Frederick E.O. Toye, known for his work on Shōgun and The Boys.
Patinkin recently completed filming for November 1963, directed by Roland Joffé. He gained prominence for his role as CIA officer Saul Berenson in the acclaimed series Homeland, as well as for his Emmy-winning performance as Dr. Jeffrey Geiger on Chicago Hope. He appears in NBC’s Brilliant Minds and will also feature in The Network’s The Artist.
His filmography includes notable titles such as The Princess Bride, Yentl, Wonder, Life Itself, Wish I Was Here, Daniel, Ragtime, and Dick Tracy. A recipient of a Tony Award for his role as Che in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, Patinkin is represented by Echo Lake Entertainment and CAA.
