MAC Cosmetics Brings Back Its Magazine After Nearly 10 Years, Featuring Doja Cat as the First Cover Star
Doja Cat is set to make a bold statement as the face of MAC Cosmetics’ newly relaunched magazine, MACzine. The magazine, which originally ran from 2009 to 2017, will make its digital comeback on January 29, showcasing the singer in a striking image where she appears to smoke red lipstick.
“We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to over the last few months. To start, we’re bringing back MACzine,” said Nicola Formichetti, MAC’s global creative director, in the magazine’s inaugural letter. This punchy return is seen as a revival of the brand’s commitment to innovative and inclusive beauty campaigns.
The return of MACzine is marked by a modern approach, with the brand emphasizing its aim to create a “modern editorial expression of fashion, beauty, culture, and artistry designed to live across platforms and spark inspiration in real time.”
Formichetti reflected on the magazine’s former success, noting, “Back in the day, MACzine was our creative playground. It was where we experimented and brought some of our most daring ideas to life.”
In a makeup tutorial video, Doja Cat showcases her skills and shares her experience of growing up watching tutorials. The artist applies the products from her new lip kit, concluding with, “This is the final look, and I only wear MAC.”
As the beauty industry embraces a resurgence of bold and confident makeup, Formichetti believes this is an ideal moment to revive MACzine. He remarked, “Let’s embrace this new chapter and create the future of beauty together. It’s time to have fun with makeup again.”
